Atlantic University Sport released the 2017 fall sports schedules today, including women’s rugby, men’s and women’s soccer as well as men’s and women’s cross country. Hosts for the 2017 fall championships were also confirmed.

The StFX Department of Athletics honored its 2015-16 U SPORTS Academic All-Canadians Thursday morning at their annual celebratory breakfast.

StFX Athletics is proud to share the story of X-Women rugby student-athlete Tasha McKenzie. Tasha is a fourth year Arts student from Indian Brook, N.S. who after playing for the X-Women rugby team for three years, took this past season off from varsity competition. Bell Let’s Talk, Canadian universities and Atlantic University Sport (AUS), Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ), Ontario University Athletics (OUA), and Canada West Universities Athletic Association (CWUAA) today announced a national student initiative to promote mental health on campuses across Canada.

In a battle of two teams that had won every game they played in 2016, the StFX X-Women outlasted the Ottawa Gee-Gees to claim the title of national champions with a 27-19 victory in Victoria.

The StFX women jumped out to an early lead over the No. 1 seeded Guelph Gryphons in the first half and completed the upset in the second, moving on to the championship finals with a 38-24 victory at Centennial Stadium Friday night.

In a contest that came down to the very last play of the game the StFX X-Women held on for a 24-17 victory over the Concordia Stingers in U Sports quarterfinal action.

X-Women prop Joanna Alphonso was honored as a U Sports 1st team All-Canadian at the national rugby awards banquet Wednesday evening and winger Breanna Allison received U Sports 2nd team All-Canadian recognition.

The McMaster Marauders, the No.1 ranked team in the nation all season, head into the CIS women’s rugby championship looking to defend their title from 2015, with a challenging draw after being upset in the OUA championship on Friday.

The draw and schedule were announced Monday for the 2016 Canadian Interuniversity Sport women’s rugby championship. The StFX X-Women will face the Concordia Stingers in a quarterfinal game Thursday at 5:00 PST in Victoria, BC.

The StFX X-Women are the 2016 AUS champions after a decisive 62-0 victory over the Acadia Axewomen Friday night at Oland Stadium as over 200 fans braved the wet, cold weather to take in the AUS final.

Third-year StFX prop Joanna Alphonso has been named the Atlantic University Sport most valuable player for the second consecutive season. Alphonso was also named to the AUS all-star team along with teammates Ellen Murphy, Jaelei Meyer, Breanna Allison, Brooke Newsome and Miranda Sample.
