X-Women wrap up perfect AUS season with win over Panthers

Charlottetown, PE – The CIS ranked No. 4 StFX X-Women closed out AUS record season play with a perfect 6-0 record as they defeated the UPEI Panthers 43-0 Saturday afternoon in the final AUS regular season game for both squads.

The Panthers finish third in the standings with a 2-4 record.

The nationally ranked X-Women built up a 36-0 lead at halftime and added an additional seven points in the second half for the win.

Joanna Alphonso and Brooke Newsome each scored a pair of tries to lead the StFX offensive attack. Single tries were scored by Ellen Murphy, Miranda Sample and June Beals.

Sabrina McDaid booted four conversions to round out the X-Women scoring.

Murphy earned Subway player of the game honors for her strong play on the afternoon.

The Panthers will head to Acadia on Saturday, October 22nd for a 7:00 pm playoff game. The teams will tangle in the Subway AUS semifinal with the winner moving on to play the X-Women in the AUS final on Friday, October 28th. Kick-off for the Subway AUS championship game is 6:00 pm at StFX Oland Stadium.

The AUS conference will send two representatives to the CIS championship, slated for Nov. 3-6 in Victoria, BC.
