Smith scores four goals as X-Women dominate Moncton 8-0

Moncton, NB – The U SPORTS No. 5 ranked STFX X-Women played to a dominant 8-0 shutout victory over the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleues Friday night.

In the second last regular season game, STFX improved to 11-0-0, keeping their undefeated streak alive.

Conference leading scorer Amanda Smith had an impressive seven points in the game, scoring four goals and assisting on three others. The three goals she set up were all scored by freshman forward Ava Elgood.

Fellow frontliner Lauren Reid scored a goal and added an assist as the trio accounted for all of STFX's points.

Smith connected with Elgood who scored the first two goals of the game in the 5th and 12th minutes, before finding the back of the net herself one minute later for her first of four on the night.

Smith scored in the 13th and 19th minutes then STFX scored two more before the opening half was complete as Reid tallied in the 32nd minute and Smith again in the 34th.

The forwards worked well together throughout the half with many crisp passes through gaps in the Moncton defending to build up the 6-0 lead through 45 minutes.

Smith's fourth goal came in the 60th minute off a pass from Reid then she fed Elgood seven minutes later to score STFX's final goal of the game.

The X-Women had 19 shots on goal to Moncton's one as Jo Pratt handled the shutout duties in the X net.

STFX has eight shutout wins on the season and have only allowed a stingy three goals against.

They will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Fredericton to take on the UNB Reds. Moncton hosts Cape Breton in their final regular season game. Both games are slated for 3:00 pm.
