X-Women beat REDS in overtime

FREDERICTON, NB - The STFX X-Women beat the UNB REDS 2-1, in overtime, in Atlantic University Sport women's hockey action, Friday night at UNB's Aitken Centre.

Tea Pearce (Calgary, AB) put the X-Women on the board, scoring with just seconds left in the first period on a breakway goal.

The X-Women pressed the REDS in the second, aiming to extend their lead, but Cassie McCallum (Rothesay, NB) blocked all shots, keeping the score unchanged.

In the third period, Lauren Carter (Milton, ON), found the back of the net, tying the score for the REDS with just 7:26 to play.

Neither side could find a winner in what remained of regulation time, but just 1:43 into overtime, Alexis Perry (Brooklin, ON) scored the winner for X, converting a pass from Bree MacPherson (Antigonish, NS).

McCallum - the third star of the game - made 22 saves in regulation and overtime in the UNB net. Second star Bianca Zak (Stonewall, MB) made 30 for the win.

Perry was named first star and player of the game for her overtime heroics.

With the loss, the REDS are now 9-1-1-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL) while the X-women are 6-2-1-2.

The REDS return to home ice on Saturday when they host the Saint Mary's Huskies. Game time is 7:00pm.

The X-women travel to Moncton Saturday to face the Aigles Bleues. That game is scheduled for a 7:00pm start as well.
