Olivia DeMerchant of the StFX X-Women rugby team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Nov. 4, 2018.

A pair of veteran fifth year X-Women were named U SPORTS second team All-Canadians Wednesday night at the championship awards banquet. Prop Joanna Alphonso and No. 8 Olivia DeMerchant both received the national honour.

The U SPORTS No. 2 ranked StFX X-Women retained first place in the AUS standings, but it didn’t come easy as they edged the No. 8 ranked Acadia Axewomen 22-20 Sunday afternoon in the last game of the AUS regular season.

The U SPORTS No. 2 X-Women rugby team dropped a pair of exhibition games to the No. 5 ranked Queen’s Gaels in doubleheader action Saturday afternoon at the University of Ottawa.

In what can only be described as less than desirable playing conditions, the U SPORTS No. 2-ranked StFX X-Women defeated the host SMU Huskies 86-0 on Wednesday evening in Atlantic University Sport women’s rugby action from Huskies Stadium.

The U SPORTS No. 2 ranked StFX X-Women defeated the UPEI Panthers by 83-5 margin on a misty Homecoming Friday night, and, in doing so, honoured the recently inducted StFX Sports Hall of Fame 2006 national championship team who were in attendance.

In a battle of U SPORTS top 10 teams, the No. 2 StFX X-Women came out on top against the visiting No. 8 Acadia Axewomen with a 36-17 victory Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers knew Saturday’s match against the U SPORTS No. 2 ranked StFX X-Women wasn’t going to be easy and the 69-5 score reflected that, but there was still plenty of positives to take away.

On a beautiful Friday evening at Oland Stadium in fornt of 300 fans, the AUS women’s rugby season got underway in what has become the traditional opening fixture between the Saint Mary’s Huskies and the StFX X-Women. This time the defending AUS champion X-Women came out on top with a 76-12 victory.

The defending AUS champion X-Women rugby team hit the pitch in pre-season exhibition action Saturday afternoon in Truro at the AUS invitational tournament and showed that they are ready to play this season. The U SPORTS 2017 bronze medalists defeated Saint Mary’s 95-0 and Acadia 52-15.
