X-Women better Aigles Bleues 3-1

Moncton, NB - The STFX X-Women bettered the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleues 3-1 on Friday at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

STFX got out to a 2-1 first period lead with goals off the sticks of Maggy Burbidge and Joanna Martinsen. Burbidge struck first in the game at the 7:02 mark from Ireland McCloskey, but the Aigles Bleues tied it up three minutes later with a marker from Clémence Dumesnil.

Martinsen put the X-Women ahead at 15:41 in what would serve as the game winner. Ashlyn Garnett and Kalle Hastman assisted.

Garnett added to the STFX lead with a lone second period goal two and a half minutes in, with helpers from Garnett and Kya Moss.

The third period was scoreless as the X-Women closed out the 3-1 win, despite being outshot 39-35 by the Aigles Bleues.

Dumesnil was named player of the game for Moncton, while STFX goaltender Amaya Giraudier was the STFX player of the game, posting 38 saves in the win as she had several key stops for her squad, as did Audrey Berthiaume at the other end of the ice for Moncton.

The win allowed the second place X-Women (10-1-2-0) to take a two-point lead in the standings ahead of the Aigles Bleues (9-5-0-2).

The Aigles Bleues will wrap up their first semester with a road game Wednesday evening in Halifax against the Dalhousie Tigers. The X-Women are back in action on Sunday afternoon when they host the St. Thomas Tommies.
