X-Men Soccer seeded No. 3, will face York in U SPORTS quarterfinal
The AUS champion X-Men Soccer team are seeded No. 3 heading into the U SPORTS national championship next weekend and will face the No. 6 seeded York Lions in the quarterfinals
DRAW AND BRACKET ANNOUNCED FOR 2024 U SPORTS MEN'S SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP
RICHMOND HILL, Ont. – U SPORTS announced the seedings and bracket for the 2024 U SPORTS Men's Soccer Championship, to be hosted by Ontario Tech University in Oshawa, Ont. The tournament gets underway on Thursday, Nov. 7 and concludes the following Sunday, Nov. 10.
The eight participating teams, listed in order of seedings, are as follows:
- #1, UBC Thunderbirds, Canada West champions (11-1-3 regular season, 3-0-0)
- #2, Montréal Carabins, RSEQ champions (10-1-1, 2-0-0)
- #3, STFX X-Men, AUS champions (8-1-3, 2-0-0)
- #4, Ontario Tech Ridgebacks, OUA champions / hosts (6-4-2, 3-0-1)
- #5, McGill Redbirds, RSEQ finalists (5-4-3, 1-0)
- #6, York Lions, OUA finalists (host berth) (8-1-3, 1-1-1)
- #7, Mount Royal Cougars, Canada West finalists (7-2-5, 2-1-0)
- #8, UNB Reds, AUS finalists (4-4-4, 2-1-0)
In men's soccer, the four conference champions are seeded in positions one through four, based on their final ranking, after the conference titles are determined. The remaining four teams are then placed in the bracket to avoid intraconference matchups in the first two rounds and to avoid pairs of similar matchups.
The entire tournament is set for Vaso's Field on the Ontario Tech campus in Oshawa. All four quarterfinals will be played on Thursday, with the schedule being as follows: (all times Atlantic)
- 11 a.m. #6 York vs. #3 STFX
- 1:30 p.m. #7 Mount Royal vs. #2 Montréal
- 4 p.m. #8 UNB at #1 UBC
- 7 p.m. #5 McGill at #4 Ontario Tech
Game Day 2 is set for Friday, and will see consolation games at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., with championship semifinals to follow at 4 and 7 p.m.
The lone game on Saturday, will be the fifth-place game, set for 5 p.m. Sunday is Finals Day and will feature the bronze-medal game at 11 a.m. and the championship at 2 p.m.
