Moncton, NB – The STFX X-Men clinched a first round playoff bye with a 1-0 victory over the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus Friday night at Stade Croix Bleue Medavie Stadium.
The lone goal came at the end of the game in the 89th minute off the foot of midfielder Logan Rieck. He delivered a bullet of a shot through traffic off a free kick just outside the 18-yard box.
Sam Diltz earned the shutout win in the STFX net, facing only two shots on goal.
The win improves the X-Men record to 8-1-2 on the season as they sit alone in first place atop the AUS standings with 26 points.
The X-Men will be back in action tomorrow in Fredericton for their final regular season game against the UNB REDS. Game time is 7:15 pm.
UNB will also be hosting the AUS championship tournament next weekend, October 24-27.
