X-Men handle Mounties 5-0 in Friday night action

Sackville, NB – The STFX X-Men improved to 3-2-0 on the season with a 5-0 shutout victory over the Mount Allison Mounties Friday night.

Veteran midfielder Kyle Cordeiro scored two goals for the X-Men as they built up a 4-0 lead at halftime.

Lewis Dye had a long throw-in ball in the 23^rd minute which resulted in consecutive headers by Max Bodurtha and Cordeiro, which was directed into the Mount A net for the first X-Men goal of the game.

Cordeiro then assisted on the second X goal just three minutes later, feeding a through ball to Jack Kennedy who broke through and beat Mounties keeper Matthew Kiropoulos with a low shot.

Freshman midfielder Nico Goldsztein tallied in the 40^th minute, capitalizing on a rebound after sustained X-Men pressure on goal.

Coredeiro notched his second goal of the half two minutes later as he took a header pass from Bodurtha, juggled through a pair of Mounties defense with a couple touches and beat the keeper to give the visitors a commanding four goal lead after 45 minutes of play.

The lone goal in the second half came from veteran X-Men midfielder Logan Rieck. He deposited a rebound after Goldsztein hit the post after a long crossed ball deep into Mounties territory.

Sam Diltz earned the shutout win in the X-Men net.

The blue and white will have the remainder of the weekend off and will be back in action on September 23^rd when they travel to Halifax to take on Dalhousie.
