Antigonish, NS – The STFX X-Men and Moncton Aigles Bleus tied 2-2 in AUS action Thursday night at STFX Stadium.

The Aigles Bleus were first on the scoreboard when Jonathan Kisse (Toronto, ON) took advantage of a misplayed STFX header in the sixth minute of play and deposited it into the net.

Another loose ball deep in X territory resulted in Moncton's second goal in the 34th minute as Mohamed Lamine Touré (Moncton, NB) lifted one over the head of X-Men goalkeeper Samuel Diltz (Newmarket, ON).

The Aigles Bleus held onto the 2-0 halftime lead.

The X-Men pressured early on in the second half, searching for their first goal to get back in the game but the Aigles Bleus held them off.

The game progressed into a fast-paced physical affair.

STFX finally broke through in the 79th minute when U SPORTS soccer player of the week Logan Rieck (Cambridge, ON) connected on a hard-struck shot off an X free kick.

The X-Men stepped up their game as Kyle Cordeiro (Oakville, ON) notched the tying goal five minutes later, one-timing the ball off a cross from Cameron Shaw (Ottawa, ON).

Moncton almost scored late in the game as Achraf Achkra (Dieppe, NB) was close in tight, but the X defenders deflected his shot out of play to keep the tie game intact.

Samuel Barrowcliffe (Princeton, ON) had a chance at the other end for the X-Men in the 89th minute but was stopped by Masimengo.

Both squads had a sense of urgency to score in the final minutes of play and into extra time but the game remain locked at 2-2.

Aigles Blues midfielder Lionel Feval (Rivière Salée, Martinique) earned player of the game honours for his squad, while Cordeiro took home Subway player of the game recognition for the X-Men.

STFX will be back in action tomorrow evening when they host the UNB Reds at 7:15 pm in their final regular season game.

The Aigles Bleus will travel to Sydney Friday night to take on the Cape Breton Capers.
