X-Men suffer first loss of season in close game against Sea-Hawks

St. John's, NF – The U SPORTS No. 6 ranked X-Men fell 2-1 to the Memorial Sea-Hawks Saturday afternoon in AUS action.

Harry Carter scored the game wining goal in the 79th minute for the home team as the Sea-Hawks (2-3-1) handed the X-Men (4-1-0) their first loss of the season.

X-Men head coach Graham Kennedy noted, "We faced a motivated MUN team who defended deep and countered. They are a strong team and they beat another strong team in the AUS today."

He continued, "I thought we had enough opportunity to win and we simply didn't mix. We haven't played in two weeks and it showed today. All credit to Memorial, they worked hard today and earned the three points."

Colin Connors opened the scoring in the game for Memorial with a goal 10 minutes in.

X-Men forward Sam Barrowcliffe tied it up in the 23rd minute with an unassisted marker.

The 1-1 score held up at halftime. Both teams battled for the go-ahead goal throughout the second half and were fairly even on shots on goal leading up to the Carter tally.

The Sea-Hawks player received Subway Player of the Game honours for his efforts.

The same two squads will be back in action tomorrow at 1:00 pm.
