Halifax, NS  Thursday night under the lights the Saint Mary's Huskies earned a 1-0 shutout victory over the STFX X-Men in a match before the Thanksgiving break.

The Huskies evened the score from their trip in week one of the season to Antigonish where they were bested by the X-Men 2-1.

The opening half treated the crowd to some intense soccer action with both teams racing the pitch, possession for possession with thrilling offence. The X-Men's Seamus MacDonald and Huskies Jensen Brown stole the show with spectacular goal keeping.

Midway through the half at the 28th minute Huskies rookie Sean Freeman put it past MacDonald on a pass from Cameron Zinn to put the home squad up 1-0.

The remainder of the half continued the frantic pace but both teams defense stood up to keep the score 1-0 at the half.

The second half saw a similar story as the Huskies - determined to add to their lead - were thwarted time and time again by the X-Men defence.

The X-Men continued to press for the equalizer throughout the second half but Brown was up to the task keeping them at bay.

A late flourish by STFX brought the crowd to their feet but the Huskies back line continued to clear each possession, securing the 1-0 shutout victory.

AUS Subway player of the game for the Huskies was keeper Jensen Brown.

Up next for the Huskies (5-2-1) will be a trip to New Brunswick when they take on UNB October 15 in Saint John.

The X-Men (6-2) play host to Acadia on October 16.
