X-Men fall to Capers in final AUS regular season home game

Sydney, NS – The Cape Breton Capers defeated the StFX X-Men 1-0 on a wet and windy Saturday afternoon at CBU Field in the final regular season game of the AUS season.

With the victory, the Capers (9-2-1) locked down second place in the AUS standings. By virtue of that standing, they have assured themselves a spot in the semifinals next Friday night. The X-Men (7-2-3) finish in third place overall and will play a quarterfinal match-up next Thursday.

The Capers received a first-half strike from Corey Bent (Preston, UK) with the assist going to Peter Schaale (Bernkastel-Kues, GER). The Capers defended well the rest away and limited X's chances to equalize.

Jamie Wilson (Dunbar, SCO) earned the clean sheet as the Capers outshot the X-Men 4 to 1 in the defensive affair. Marko Djukic earned the Subway Player of the Game for a strong defensive effort. Thomas Pieroway (Conception Bay, NL) took the loss for the visting X-Men.

The Capers will travel to Fredericton next week as the UNB Varsity Reds host the 2016 Subway AUS Men's Soccer Championships November 3-6. The quarterfinals start on Thursday night at 5:00 and 7.30pm. The semifinals go Friday night at 5:00 and 7.30pm with the final being held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm. All games can be seen on BellTV1.
