X-Men wrap up regular season with convincing win

The StFX X-Men (6-3-4) finished the regular season in AUS soccer action with a convincing 4-0 win over the visiting Memorial SeaHawks (1-11-1) Sunday afternoon at Oland Stadium in Antigonish.
 
Max Maund, a fifth-year senior from Courtenay, BC, opened the scoring for the X-Men in the 15th minute.
 
"We made eye contact and he gave me a perfect ball over the top," Maund said of the pass from midfielder Michael Tait, which he deposited behind Memorial goalkeeper Michael Bartellas.
 
Maund noted the tally was the first of his AUS career at Oland Stadium.
 
Mark Harpur, in the 35th minute, doubled the X-Men lead.  It was the third goal of the season for the fourth-year wing from Calgary, Alberta.
 
In the final minute of the first half, third-year midfielder Randy Ribeiro made it 3-0 on a left-footed strike from the top of the 18-yard box.
 
Ryan Ashlee, a third-year defender, wrapped up the scoring in the 72nd minute.
 
For the season, Ribeiro (four) and Harpur (three) led the X-Men in goal scoring.
 
Ashlee, Maund and freshman Natneal Tecle each added two markers.
 
With his shutout of the SeaHawks, Steven Rodenhizer notched three in the regular season, as part of a 3-1-3 record.
 
Sam Hutchison (3-2) also collected two shutouts.
 
It was the final match at home for fifth-year seniors Maund and Jamie Tibbo
 
Graeme Hodgkinson and Harpur wrapped up their fourth seasons.
 
The X-Men finished the season in a three-way tie for second place in the AUS conference with 22 points. Dalhousie and Saint Mary's also finished with the same tally, while UNB is in first with 27 points.

The Subway AUS Soccer Championship is scheduled for Nov. 1-3 at Saint Mary's University at Huskies' Stadium in Halifax. The seeding and schedule for the championship will be announced on Monday.
