Soccer X-Men roll to home-opening win

A second-half offensive explosion was the difference in the CIS ranked No. 6 StFX X-Men’s 4-0 home-opening win over the Memorial Sea-Hawks Sunday afternoon at Oland Stadium.
 
After a scoreless first half, forward Michael Marousek tallied for the X-Men (3-0-0) in the 63rd minute on a set-up from defender Mira Novak.
 
That marker opened the flood gates for the X-Men, who scored four times in just more than 18 minutes.
 
In the 66th minute, defender Jamie Tibbo doubled the X-Men lead (2-0) with his first goal o f the 2011 season.
 
Marousek, with his second of the match and fifth of the season, scored on an assist from first-year mid-fielder Martin Vlk in the 73rd minute.
 
X-Men midfielder Michael Tait (81st minute) rounded out the scoring, depositing a header from Jamar Dixon after he battled in the air with Sea-Hawks keeper Michael Bartellas.
 
A.J. Gray (X-Men) and Matthew Breen (Seahawks) earned player-of-the-match honours.
 
The X-Men outshot the Sea-Hawks 30-3.
 
Third-year goalkeeper Andrew MacDonald recorded the win for the X-Men with two saves, while Bartellas made nine stops for Memorial.

The undefeated X-Men currently sit in a tie for first place in the AUS conference with 9 points. Their next match is Saturday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m. when they face the Mount Allison Mounties (0-3-0) in Sackville, NB. Next Sunday (Sept. 25), they will face the UPEI Panthers(2-0-1) in a 1 p.m. opening kick-off in Charlottetown.
