Capers beat X-Men for second time this season

Sydney, NS – The Cape Breton Capers are the lone team to beat the STFX X-Men in regular season play this season and they did it for the second time, playing to a 92-78 victory Thursday night at Sullivan Fieldhouse.
Cape Breton came out strong in the first quarter, shooting 55.6% from the field and building a 27-23 lead. Their three-point shooting was a key factor, as they hit 50% from deep in both the first and second quarters. StFX struggled to keep pace as Cape Breton maintained a four-point lead at halftime, 52-44.
The third quarter saw the Capers continue their offensive efficiency, shooting 58.8% from the field and maintaining control of the game as they were up 74-66 after 30 minutes.
In the fourth quarter, STFX's offense cooled, managing only 13 points. Meanwhile, Cape Breton stayed consistent and sealed the victory.
Liai Tong led the charge for the Capers, posting a team-high 20 points along with 9 rebounds. Shakael Pryce contributed 17 points and a game-high 10 assists along with 9 rebounds. Stefan Anisko scored 4 points.
For the X-Men, Gatluak James scored 19 points and pulled in 8 rebounds, while Koat Thomas also netted19 points and had 4 rebounds, DJ Jackson contributed 15 points and had 6 assists. The X-Men were without the services of Jeff Ngandu who left the game in the first quarter with an injury.
The win improves Cape Breton's record to 9-4, while STFX falls to 11-2.
The same two teams will be back in action on Saturday night, January 25th in a rematch at STFX's Coach K Court. Tipoff is 8:00 pm.
