Capers hang on for close win over X-Men
CAPERS defeat X-Men by 82-77 score Saturday night at the Sullivan Fieldhouse
SYDNEY – The Cape Breton University CAPERS (3-1) defeated the STFX X-Men (3-1) by an 82-77 score in Atlantic University Sport men's basketball regular season action on Saturday night at the Sullivan Fieldhouse.
It was exciting back and forth action from beginning to end as the teams exchanged the lead many times. The X-Men controlled the first quarter and kept the lead until the end, 23-15.
The second quarter saw the CAPERS make a comeback, outscoring the X-Men 20-10 in the quarter to take the lead 35-33 at the half.
The teams were neck and neck until the end of the game when the CAPERS managed to gain and keep a small lead to take the game 82-77.
DJ Jackson (Mississauga, ON) – STFX's player of the game – netted a whopping 37 points with 10 rebounds. Keyonte Beals (North Preston, NS) contributed with 16 points and 4 rebounds as well as Gatluak James (Windsor, ON) with 8 points and 13 rebounds.
Liai Tong – CBU's Subway player of the game - led the CAPERS with 21 points and 5 rebounds. Helping with the win were Shak Pryce (Pickering, ON) with 18 points and 5 rebounds and Tafarian Black with 14 points and 6 rebounds.
The X-Men head to UNB next weekend for games on Saturday and Sunday while the CBU CAPERS play their back-to-back games next weekend at Dalhousie.
