X-Men play to convincing win over Tigers in first regular season game
The STFX X-Men played to a convincing 85-57 win over the Dalhousie Tigers to open up AUS regular season play
Antigonish, NS – The STFX X-Men played to a convincing 85-57 win over the Dalhousie Tigers Wednesday night on Coach K Court to open up AUS regular season play.
The X-Men got out to an early 9-0 lead as they started the game with consecutive three-pointers from Gatluak James, Keyonte Beals and Koat Thomas.
They outpaced the Tigers 21-16 in the first quarter.
After the Tigers pulled to within a point at 21-20 early into the second quarter, the X-Men went on a 14-0 run to take a 15-point lead, 35-20 midway through.
At halftime STFX was up 44-33. Beals netted 10 points for X in the opening half and Thomas scored nine.
Gabe Marcotullio led the Tigers with nine points, all from three-point range.
The X-Men went on an eight-point run to start the third quarter, including a pair of three- pointers by Beals to give them a 19-point advantage, 52-33.
The Tigers struggled to mount a consistent offensive attack and narrow the gap. They trailed 70-47 after the third quarter as the X-Men outscored the visitors 26-14 in the quarter.
STFX maintained their lead throughout the fourth quarter on route to the 86-57 win.
Beals finished the night with a game-high 19 points, earning STFX Gabriel Pizza player of the game honours. DJ Jackson scored 14 points for the X-Men and had 7 rebounds. Thomas added 11.
Marcotullio was the top scorer and player of the game for the Tigers, tallying 13 on the night off the bench while also contributing five rebounds. Lydell Husbands-Browne scored 12.
The same two teams will square-off again for a rematch on Friday night, November 1st but this time in Halifax. Tip-off is 8:00 pm at the Dalplex.
