Halifax, NS – The X-Men basketball team wrapped up play at the Dalhousie Shoveller Invitational tournament with a 98-75 victory over the Mount Saint Vincent Mystics Sunday morning to take seventh place overall.

StFX went 1-2 in the three-day event. Friday afternoon they dropped a 93-70 game to UPEI in the quarter-finals, then fell 91-83 to UQAM in the consolation semifinals.

In the game against the Mystics, the X-Men were down 19-14 after the first quarter, but exploded for a 34-15 second quarter to establish a 48-34 lead at halftime.

They continued their strong play in the second half for the win, avenging an earlier exhibition loss in October to the same Mystics squad.

Five X-Men were in double-scoring figures in the game including Cameron Walker with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Davonte Provo scored 18 and had four rebounds and eight assists, while Kevin Bercy netted 17 and had seven boards. Julius Antoine scored 10 points for the X-Men, as did Tristen Ross who was 3-for-7 form three-point range.

Leading the Mystics was Brayden White with 15 points and nine rebounds. Ben Kidston scored 13 off the bench and Emad Khalek contributed 12 points in the losing effort.

The X-Men now switch their focus to AUS regular season play and look to turn their fortunes after a 1-5 start to the season. They will be back in Halifax on Friday, January 8th to face the Dalhousie Tigers (5-2) in a four-point game. Tip-off is 8:00 pm at Dalplex.

StFX will then host UNB (3-4) on Saturday night, January 9th, also at 8:00 pm.
