X-Men drop pair of games to NCAA opponents

The StFX X-Men basketball team dropped a pair of pre-season games in the northeastern United States over the weekend.

Saturday night (Nov. 1), the blue and white lost 103-59 to the Bentley University Falcons in Waltham, Massachusetts.

Julius Antoine (Woodbridge, ON) of the X-Men led all scorers with 17 points. With six, he was StFX's top rebounder.

Forward Kevin Bercy (Kanata, ON) meshed 11 points for the X-Men, while collecting four rebounds, one assist, one steal and one blocked shot.

Sophomore guard Davonte Provo (East Preston, NS) dished out three assists to lead the X-Men.

Tyler McFarland and Andrew Shaw led the Falcons with 16 and 14 points, respectively.

The Falcons, who led 52-31 at the intermission, cruised to victory in the second half. Bentley held a 56 to 36 per cent advantage in field goal percentage.

The X-Men opened their two-game exhibition swing with a 102-54 loss to the Bryant Bulldogs of Rhode Island Friday afternoon (Oct. 31).

Cameron Walker (Dallas, TX) led the X-Men with 12 points, while Alex Arthur (Toronto, ON), off the bench, hit double figures with 11. Walker also had a team-high five rebounds.

Zach Chionuma led the Bulldogs with 17 points.

The X-Men have wrapped up pre-season exhibition play (2-8) and now look ahead to 2014-15 AUS regular season play. They open the season on Saturday, Nov. 8 when they travel to Halifax to face the Saint Mary's Huskies. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
