X-Men winless at CBU tourney

SYDNEY, NS - The StFX X-Men posted a 0-3 record over the weekend at the EastLink Television Capers Fall Classic at Centre 200.

Sunday morning, the X-Men faced the Holland College Hurricanes of the Atlantic College Athletics Association to wrap up the tournament, dropping a close 88-87 decision.

Sophomores Kevin Bercy (Kanata, ON) and Cameron Walker (Dallas, TX) led five X-Men in double figures with 17 points apiece. Julius Antoine (Woodbridge, ON), Jameel Williamson (Pickering, ON) and Shane Coupland (Brisbane, AUS) scored 11 points each.

Bercy completed a double-double with a game-high 12 rebounds, while adding five steals. Williamson chipped in a team-high six assists.

The X-Men led 41-35 at halftime and 70-59 after three quarters, but the Hurricanes rallied in the fourth quarter, outscoring StFX 29 to 17.

Off the bench, DJ Wright led Holland College with 27 points, while Chase Bowden had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Friday, the X-Men opened the tournament with a 73-57 loss to the McMaster Marauders of Hamilton, Ontario.

Bercy topped StFX with 10 points and seven rebounds. Walker chipped in eight points, six rebounds, one assist and one steal. Williamson led the blue and white with six steals and four assists.

The X-Men trailed 35-23 at halftime.

Leon Alexander and Joe Rocca, off the bench, led the Marauders with 15 points apiece, while Adam Presutti hit double figures with 11.

Saturday night, StFX faced the host Cape Breton University Capers, losing 80-57.

Bercy led the X-Men with 13 points, while adding six rebounds, two assists and one steal. Antoine contributed 10 points and a game-high six steals. Freshman Roydell Clarke (Ottawa, ON) added seven points, three rebounds and one steal.

The Capers led 45-23 at the intermission.

Meshack Lufile led CBU, who shot 50 per cent from the field, with 15 points and nine rebounds.

The X-Men will continue pre-season action this weekend with road games at Bryant University in Rhode Island (Friday, Oct. 31) and Bentley College in Waltham, Massachusetts (Saturday, Nov. 1).

StFX will tip-off its regular season Saturday, Nov. 8 when they visit Halifax to face the rival Saint Mary's Huskies. Game time is 8 p.m.
