X-Men fall to Capers

Sydney, NS – The Cape Breton Capers outscored the StFX X-Men 22-8 in the fourth quarter en route to a 74-61 victory at Sullivan Fieldhouse.

Cedric Kasongo hit a trio of three-point baskets in the final frame to help spark the Capers comeback for the win. He scored 17 points in the game and had four rebounds, five assists and five steals.

Seth Amoah scored 19 points and had six rebounds and six assists, while Meshack Lufile tallied 17 points and pulled in nine boards for the Capers who led the X-Men 19-16 after the first quarter.

The teams were locked at 32 points apiece at halftime and the X-Men took the edge in the third quarter, sparked by a nine point effort by veteran Will Donkoh.

They were up by as much as seven points but the home town Capers clawed their way back and were down 53-52 after 30 minutes.

After exchanging baskets throughout the first half of the fourth quarter, the Capers built a five point lead with 3:31 left to play. They then went on a 12-0 run down the stretch to open up their lead and seal the victory.

Donkoh was the top scorer for the X-Men with 16 points. He also had four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Freshman forward Cameron Walker had a double-double evening with 10 points and 11 rebounds, while Jameel Williamson netted nine points and Jordan Clarke scored eight.

The X-Men are back on the court Friday night at 8:00 pm when they host the Acadia Axemen in a four point game at the StFX Oland Centre. They follow up with another four point match Saturday night against Dalhousie, also an 8pm tip-off in Antigonish.
