X-Men pick up pair of victories in Newfoundland

The StFX X-Men picked up a pair of wins on the weekend in St. John's against the Memorial Sea-Hawks. Saturday night the X-Men came out on top with an 89-78 victory, then followed up with a 70-59 win on Sunday.

Third quarter run lead X-Men to 89-78 win over Sea-Hawks

Nov. 23, 2013 (St. John's N.L.) The StFX X-Men defeated the Memorial Sea-Hawks 89-78 in AUS men's basketball on Saturday night in St. John's. After an even first half the X-Men opened up a lead on a 13-0 third quarter run capped off by a Will Donkoh dunk.

The halftime score was 43-43.

Jordan Clarke led the X-Men with 24 points in the win. Centre Rodrigo Madera added 16 points and 11 rebounds while Donkoh finished with 19 points.

Vasilije Curcic finished with 23 points and 9 rebounds for the Sea-Hawks. Alpha Kisusi added 18 points while rookie point guard Davion Parnsalu added 16 points in the loss.

Clarke was player of the game for StFX while Curcic earned the honour for Memorial.

StFX defeat Memorial 70-59 in men's basketball

Nov. 24, 2013 (St. John's, N.L.) The StFX X-Men came from behind to earn a 70-59 win in AUS men's basketball on Sunday in St. John's. The X-Men outscored Memorial 26-10 in the fourth quarter to retake command of the game.
 
Memorial took control in the third after dominating the quarter 17-3.
 
Kevin Bercy, the X-Men player of the game, led the way with 14 points and 7 rebounds off the StFX bench. Rodrigo Madera had 12 points and 13 rebounds for the winners.
 
Caleb Gould and Vasilije Curic were responsible for the majority of the Sea-Hawks offence. Gould notched 23 points with 10 rebounds, while Curcic drained 20 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Gould was player of the game for Memorial.
 
Memorial head into the Christmas break 0-6. They will return to the court for AUS regular season action in Acadia on January 11th and 12th.
 
StFX improved to 4-2 with the win. They will travel to Wolfville on Thursday, Nov. 28th to face then Acadia Axemen (4-2), then will play host to the UPEI Panthers (2-4) Saturday, November 30th at 6:00 pm.
