X-Men basketball center Riiny Ngot is the latest athlete featured in our Getting to Know your X-Women and X-Men series throughout the summer. Riiny recently completed his third year with the X-Men and is an Arts student from Sudan, Africa.
What brought you to StFX?
The legendary Coach K was the main reason for me to attend St. Francis Xavier, which has one of the top basketball programs in Canada. When I looked at the website prior to my first visit to Antigonish and StFX’s campus, I knew I would enjoy the beautiful community StFX has. I enjoy my time as I am a part of the X family as a varsity athlete and student. It has been my dream to be a part of the great tradition at X and one day I will be proud to say I am an X Alumnus.
What has been your best moment in a StFX uniform so far?
My all time best moment to date in a StFX uniform was the Cape Breton game when I was not expected to play due to my knee injury. No one expected me to be able to perform at the level I did which made it a memorial moment for me as an athlete.
What are you most looking forward to this season?
I just recently had surgery on my injured knee, which I have been playing on for the past two years, so I’m looking forward to an exciting season.
Who has been the most influential person in your life (and why)?
My parents have been the most influential people in my life. They taught me at an early age that hard work pays off. As a young farmer growing up I never had a weekend off from work, so I developed good work ethic which has helped me develop into a stronger basketball player. This has showed me that hard work has paid off and made me grow into the respectful man that I am today.
One thing I cannot live without is…?
Family. I am a big family-oriented person.
My dream vacation destination is…?
My dream vacation spot is MADAGASCAR. It is a beautiful island and I would love to see it with my own eyes.
Tell us one thing that fans may not know about you?
My biggest secret is that I listen to country music, A LOT.
