X Sweep Weekend Against Memorial

X Sweep Weekend Against Memorial
The X-Men basketball team swept their weekend series with the Memorial Seahawks
knocking off the red and white 113-61 on Saturday and 109-73 Sunday.

The weekend series proved to be no test for the X-Men as they lead from the beginning
of both games and never looked back.

Saturday's contest was once again an extremely balanced attack from X - which seems
to be a common trend this season - as everyone scored and six players finished the
game scoring in double figures.

Charlie Spurr was the leading scorer for yet another game this year, scoring 16 points
on 6-of-7 shooting, including going 3-for-4 from behind the three-point line.
Spurr leads the AUS in three-point percentage at a blistering 50% on the season while
two other X-Men grace the top 15 list with Chad Warren sitting 10th (40%) and Jeremy
Dunn 11th (40%).

The well balanced attack gave the X-Men ample opportunity to play their bench more
and give the starters a much needed rest.

Perhaps the game of the night went to second year guard Jordan Clarke as he had his
best game of the season scoring 13 points and dishing six assists along with gathering
seven steals.

The Seahawks were lead by Sackville, Nova Scotia native who finished with 15 points in
yet another Seahawk loss.

Sunday's game was much of the same as the X-Men pulled away after the Seahawks
kept the game tied at 50 going into halftime.

Rookie Terry Thomas had his best offensive game of the season going off for 25 points
on 11-of-13 shooting along with seven rebounds, while fifth-year senior Christian
Upshaw finished with 23 points and four assists in just 24 minutes of action.

After a scary first half the X-Men turned their defense up to a new notch, allowing the
Seahawks to score just 23 total second half points while also making them turn the ball
over 30 times.

For the game the X-Men shot 63% and held the Seahawks to just 38% shooting.

StFX will now look ahead to their biggest game of the season Wednesday against the
Cape Breton Capers. Just like the women's team, this is a must win game for the X-Men
who are looking to redeem a disappointing AUS finals loss from last year and an early
season defeat in Cape Breton.

With six seniors on the team and nearly the exact same roster as last season, the XMen
are no strangers to the opposing orange and green Capers. In what has always
been a heated rivalry, the dominance of both teams this season makes this game just
as big as any other in recent history.

The key for the X-Men will be to shut down the Capers high-paced offensive game and
hold them to one shot per possession.

The game kicks off at 8 PM Wednesday night and is the first ?white-out' game of the
season. Fans are encouraged to wear their white and come out to show their X pride!
