X-Men downed by Capers

The Cape Breton Capers gained some ground in the AUS standings as they were able to beat the StFX X-Men by a score of 90-86.

The X-Men were involved in another close contest after recent 1 point win over the Saint Mary’s Huskies. Unfortunately, StFX came out on the losing end of this one in Cape Breton, in a game that had two players with very hot hands.

\r\n

T-Bear Upshaw of the X-Men poured in 38 points, 27 of which came on 3-point shots alone. Tyler Richards had a good game for StFX, racking up 9 rebounds and 6 assists to go with his 21 points. Will Silver added 17 points for the blue and white.

On the other side of the ball, Philip Nkrumah did it all for the Capers. He recorded a game-high 38 points, 18 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Mark McGarrigle had 15 points for Cape Breton.

The X-Men started off with a 7 point lead after the first quarter. Cape Breton would come back in the second frame and have a two point lead heading into halftime. In the see-saw affair, StFX had a one point edge heading after the third quarter before the Capers would put up 30 points in the fourth and claim victory.

Cape Breton gained a huge four points with the win and now sit in second place, only four points back of the X-Men for first in the AUS.

\r\n

StFX’s next game is this Saturday at 3pm against the last place UNB Varsity Reds. The X-Men are 5-0 at home this season and will look to improve upon that mark.
