Hadley named AUS special teams player of the week

Bishop's University receiver Oliver Burnett is the Atlantic University Sport Football Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 20, 2024.

Returning from injury, Burnett wasted little time making an impact as he caught four passes for 54 yards and two touchdowns in his team's 29-18 win over the Acadia Axeman this past weekend.

His first touchdown came in the second quarter when he hauled in pass from quarterback Justin Quirion and ran into the endzone for a 15-yard score. After halftime, Burnett caught his second touchdown pass of the day – this one a 24-yard strike from Quirion.

The Gaiters, who have already clinched first place in the conference, will look for a perfect regular season on Friday, Oct. 25 when they host the Mount Allison Mounties at 7 p.m. EDT

Acadia University linebacker Rory Litt is the Atlantic University Sport Football Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 20, 2024.

In a tightly-contested 29-18 loss to the Bishop's University Gaiters this past weekend in what was Acadia's final regular season game, the second-year Science student recorded 7.5 tackles – including 1.5 sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss. He also recorded a forced fumble in the game.

Litt's Axemen finished the season at 2-6 and will get a chance at revenge as they will meet the Gaiters in the AUS Football Championship semifinal. Game time TBD.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Name: Ben Hadley
University: STFX
Position: Kicker
Hometown: Halifax, N.S.
Year of eligibility: Fifth
Academic program: Business Administration
Height and weight: 6'2, 190 lbs.

STFX kicker Ben Hadley is the Atlantic University Sport Football Special Teams Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 20, 2024.

Hadley kicked his way into the X-Men history books this past weekend, kicking five field goals and added two extra-points as his team defeated Mount Allison 29-9.

The Business Administration student from Halifax set a new school record for career field goals (60), surpassing the old mark of 56. He made good from 32, 25, 27, 45 and 20 yards out.

He also added three kickoffs totalling 178 yards.

STFX wraps up their regular season this weekend when they host the Saint Mary's Huskies on Saturday, Oct. 26. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. ADT.
