Football quartet named to U SPORTS East-West Bowl roster
STFX X-Men Silas Fagnan, Malcolm Bussey, Ben Harrington and Josh Connors have been named to the U SPORTS East-West Bowl roster for the upcoming game in Waterloo that showcases the top football athletes eligible for the 2025 CFL Draft.
STFX X-Men Silas Fagnan, Malcolm Bussey, Ben Harrington and Josh Connors have been named to the U SPORTS East-West Bowl roster for the upcoming game in Waterloo that showcases the top football athletes eligible for the 2025 CFL Draft.
Silas Fagnan is a 6'2, 200-pound quarterback from Bonnyville, Alta. who wrapped up his third year of eligibility with the X-Men this past season. The fifth year Human Kinetics student earned AUS all-star status for the third consecutive season, and took home AUS MVP honours for the second time in his career (previously won in 2021). Fagnan started in all 8 games, leading the X-Men to an undefeated 8-0 record to capture STFX's third consecutive AUS championship. Finishing first amongst AUS quarterbacks in touchdowns (13), completions (138), passing yards (2,075) and passing yards per game (259.4), Fagnan was named X-Men Football MVP and STFX Male Student-Athlete of the Year.
Malcolm Bussey is a 5'11, 197-pound running back from Hammonds Plains, NS in his third year of eligibility with the X-Men. The third year Human Kinetics student led the AUS in rushes (158), rushing yards (1,038), rushing yards per game (129.8) and rushing touchdowns (8). He was second in the conference in all-purpose yards, averaging 135.9 yards per game. Earning AUS all-star and U SPORTS all-Canadian honours for the third consecutive season, Bussey was named X-Men Football offensive player of the year this season and was last year's AUS MVP.
Ben Harrington is a 6'2, 181-pound receiver/returner from Dartmouth, NS who wrapped up his third year of eligibility with the X-Men. The fourth year Business student was named an AUS all-star for the second time in his career, earning a spot as both a conference offensive and special teams all-star. He earned U SPORTS all-Canadian status as a receiver this season. Playing in all 8 games with the X-Men, Harrington finished second in the AUS with 32 receptions for 557 yards, and logged 6 touchdowns with the longest being 63 yards. On special teams, Harrington averaged 13.3 yards per game on the return team and led the conference with 352 total yards. He was third in the conference in all-purpose yards, averaging 133.6 yards per game.
Josh Connors is a 6'0, 227-pound linebacker from Toronto, Ont. in his third year of eligibility with the X-Men. The fourth year Business student and X-Men Football defensive player of the year earned AUS all-star status for the first time in his career. Connors recorded 41 tackles (2nd in the AUS) in the X-Men's undefeated season, finishing with 24 assists, 2.5 sacks and 5 tackles for loss.
Rosters announced for the 2024 East-West Bowl
TORONTO, Ont. — The University of Waterloo will host the 2024 East-West Bowl on Saturday, May 11, at 12:30 pm ET at Warrior Field.
The event features the top 100 Canadian university football players eligible for the 2025 CFL Draft as they look to showcase their skills to coaches, general managers, and personnel from the Canadian Football League. A minimum of three players in their third or fourth year from each of the 27 U SPORTS football programs will attend the game.
The event will also feature a coaches clinic on May 10 and 11 at Warriors Field.
The head coaches of the 2023 Vanier Cup finalists will lead the teams. Marco Iadeluca, bench boss of the Vanier Cup Champion Université de Montréal Carabins, oversees Team East, while Blake Nill, head coach of the UBC Thunderbirds, guides Team West.
