Football trio earn AUS Athlete of the Week honors

All three X-Men football StFX Athletes of the Week were named as AUS Athletes of the Week for thier efforts in the X-Men's recent 33-30 AUS semi-final win over Acadia. Click here to view the complete story from Atlantic University Sport.

X-Men wide receiver Akeem Foster was named the StFX and AUS Football Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 8, 2009. Akeem, a fourth year Arts student from Ajax, ON, was named the Subway Player of the Game in the X-Men’s 33-30 AUS semi-final win over Acadia. Akeem helped lead a 4th quarter offensive comeback where the X-Men overcame a 14 point deficit to win the game. He scored a touchdown and led all receivers in the game with 8 receptions for 129 total yards. Akeem finished the regular season 2nd overall in AUS receiving yards/game (74.4) and total reception yards (595).

X-Men football defensive back Dylan Hollohan was named the StFX and AUS Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 8, 2009. Dylan, a second year Engineering student from Moncton, NB had a key 40 yard interception return in the 3rd quarter that set-up a touchdown on the ensuing drive and helped spark the X-Men in the second half. He also had a breakup and was in on 3 punt returns for 18 total yards. Dylan currently has 5 interceptions on the season and leads the AUS in this category.

X-Men kicker/punter Anthony Alix was named the StFX and AUS Football Special Teams Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 8, 2009. Anthony, a first year Arts student from Mont-Tremblant, QC scored the game winning field goal for the X-Men with 19 seconds left in the game in their come-from-behind 33-30 AUS semi-final victory over Acadia. Anthony also kept busy with 10 punts for 347 yards in the game and had 5 kickoffs for 311 total yards.  He finished third in the AUS in punting average (32.5yds) and second in field goal percentage (66.7).
