Narbaitz named AUS Defensive Player of the Week

ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY SPORT FOOTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

StFX X-Men defensive lineman Tom Narbaitz is the Atlantic University Sport Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending November 1st, 2009. Tom, a first year Human Kinetics student from Ottawa, ON, had a strong game for the No. 10 ranked X-Men in their 31-18 win over the visiting Mount Allison Mounties to conclude regular season play. Narbaitz had 3 solo and 3 assisted tackles in the game, one QB sack which resulted in a loss of 11 yards and also had a key interception in the second quarter which he returned for 25 yards, setting up a StFX field goal.

Running back Craig Leger of the No. 6 ranked Saint Mary’s Huskies is the Atlantic University Sport Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending November 1st, 2009. Leger, a third year student from Salmon River, NS, had 14 carries for 119 yards in the Huskies’ 21-7 win over the Acadia Axemen this past weekend in Halifax, NS. Craig, who finished second in AUS rushing yardage this season with 477 yards in 8 games, also caught a pass for one yard and added a kickoff return for 8 yards in the victory.

Justin Palardy of the No. 6 ranked Saint Mary’s Huskies is once again the Atlantic University Sport Special Teams Player of the Week. Justin, a fourth year senior from Truro, NS, added another four field goals to his record-setting career and single season totals this past weekend in a 21-7 win over the Acadia Axemen. Palardy, who connected on field goals from 16, 31, 23 and 37 yards in the game, also averaged 38.1 yards on eight punts. Justin now owns the AUS career records for points scored (320), field goals made (65) and converts made (116) and in the win Friday night, he established a new AUS single season record for field goals made with his 23rd of the year. The previous AUS record of 21 was set in 1981 by former Acadia kicker Jim Direnzo. Justin’s season total of 96 points scored are the sixth highest total in league history and also a new Saint Mary’s record.
