StFX X-Men defensive back Kwasi Nkansah is the Atlantic University Sport Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending October 18th, 2009. Kwasi, a fifth year Information Systems student from Oakville, ON played a strong game on defense for the #9-ranked X-Men in their recent 33-12 interlock loss to the Bishop’s Gaiters in Antigonish, NS. Nkansah, a 2008 AUS all-star, led all StFX defensive players in the game with 6.5 total tackles. Kwasi is currently in the top 15 in the AUS in tackles this season, averaging 4.3 per game.

Receiver Gary Ross of the Mount Allison Mounties is the Atlantic University Sport Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending October 18th, 2009. Despite a loss to the #1-ranked Laval Rouge et Or in the first ever meeting of the two schools, Gary had another standout performance, catching six passes for 131 yards and a touchdown and he rushed for another 26 yards on three carries. He scored the Mounties only touchdown of the game on 71-yard catch early in the third quarter and finished the game with 262 all-purpose yards, including 105 yards on four kickoff returns. Ross, an AUS all-star in each of his three previous seasons, currently ranks fourth in league history in career receptions (151), third in career receiving yards (2,302), and remains second in career kickoff return yardage (1,403) and punt return yardage (1,607).

Justin Palardy of the #7-ranked Saint Mary’s Huskies is the Atlantic University Sport Special Teams Player of the Week for the week ending October 18th, 2009. Palardy, a fourth year senior from Truro, NS, contributed 13 points as Saint Mary's outlasted McGill 39-23 in interlock play this past weekend in Montreal, QC. Justin was 3-of-4 on his FG attempts, made all three PAT’s and averaged 40.1 yards per punt in the win. Palardy, a two-time conference all-star and the 2006 AUS Rookie of the Year, connected on field goal attempts from 43, 33 and 10 yards respectively. His 43-yard field goal 1:57 into the opening quarter was the 57th of his career and established a new AUS record for career field goals made, moving him past former StFX kicker Jadran Mlinarevic who held the previous mark of 56. Justin’s 13 points also moved him into second place all-time in AUS career scoring with 296 points, just 10 points shy of former StFX standout Paul Brule’s record of 306
