2020-21 StFX Cross Country News

For Melissa Hardy, it has been a homecoming – of sorts – in recent weeks. A highly-decorated student-athlete with the White and Blue cross country program, she recently returned to her alma mater.

Despite the cancellation of the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) season for fall sports, the dedication of the StFX cross country and track student-athletes hasn’t wavered.
The name Bernie Chisholm is synonymous with running excellence at St. Francis Xavier University. After the former cross country and track & field coach of 32 years retired after the 2018-19 season, an athletic financial award was established in his honour.

A lost Atlantic University Sport (AUS) season isn’t going to slow down student-athletes with the StFX cross country program. Although head coach Eric Gillis describes learning about the cancellation of the 2020 campaign – due to the ongoing Covid-19 global pandemic – as a “low point” for his athletes, the Antigonish native says the X-Women and X-Men quickly focused on making the best of a situation that is out of anyone’s control.
X-Men cross country runner Graydon Staples is the latest athlete featured in our Getting to Know your X-Women and X-Men series throughout the summer. Graydon is a third year Science student from Oro Medonte, Ont.
