StFX runners compete at U SPORTS national championship

Kingston, ON – The StFX X-Women and X-Men cross country teams competed at the U SPORTS national championship Saturday at Fort Henry, hosted by Queen's University. The X-Women placed 18th overall while the X-Men came in 16th position.

Queen's University won the championship banner on the women's side, while Guelph came second and Laval were third.

The individual race winner was Toronto's Lucia Stafford, crossing the line at 27.30. Laval's Anne-Marie Comeau was second at 27.44 and Branna MacDougall from Queen's was third at 28.01.

The top X-Women finisher was Paige Chisholm in 78th place with a time of 30.54. A total of 154 runners competed on the 8k course.

The remaining X-Women runners placed as follows:

Zoe Johnston, 137, 32.42
Ellen Taggart, 141, 33.04

On the men's side, the Calgary Dinos were the men's national champions, followed by McMaster in second place and Guelph in third.

Kieran Lumb from UBC was the individual race winner with a time of 30.42. Mitchelle Ubene from Guelph was second at 30.49 and Calgary's Russell Pennock was third at 30.55.

The top X-Men finisher was Paul MacLellan in 71st place as he clocked in with a time of 33.00 amongst the 143 racers on the 10k course.

Previously at the U SPORTS awards breakfast on Friday, fifth year X-Men runner Paul MacLellan from Antigonish, N.S. received the U SPORTS Student-Athlete Community Service award.
