X-Women runners open 2015 season

Halifax, NS – The X-Women cross country team competed in their first meet of the AUS season at the DAL/SMU Invitational Saturday in Point Pleasant Park, running to a second place finish amongst six teams.

Led by first year runner Hana Marmura (Antigonish, NS), who placed third overall, the X-Women tallied 52 points on the day, second to Dalhousie's 18.

Moncton (107), Acadia (124), Memorial (125) and Saint Mary's (128) rounded out the team placements.

Marmura finished the 5k course in a time of 19.29. The top two finishers were Dalhousie runners, Colleen Wilson was first in 18:31, followed by Michelle Reddy in second at 19:21.

Leah Gouthro (Hammonds Plains, NS) also cracked the top ten for the X-Women, placing 10th amongst AUS runners with a time of 20:05.

Freshman runners Catherine Thompson (Blenheim, ON) and Zoe Johnston (Pembroke, ON) placed 12th and 13th with times of 20:32 and 20:36, respectively. Jasmine Zeeeuw was 16th finishing in 20:40.

Victoria Sandre (Greely, ON) and Rachel MacDougall (Antigonish, NS) ran their first races for the blue and white and placed in the top 20 with times of 20:42 and 20:44.

Next on the schedule for the X-Women squad is their own StFX Invitational meet, slated for Saturday, September 26th. Race time is 12:00 pm on the StFX campus.
