Getting to Know...Alex Cyr

X-Men cross country and track & field distance runner Alex Cyr is the latest athlete featured in our Getting to Know your X-Women and X-Men series throughout the summer. Alex recently completed his second year with the X-Men and is a Human Kinetics student from Abram-Village, P.E.I.

Nickname:  Slimy Cyr, Slimy, Slim, Slim D, Slim Shady, Slim Jong Il, etc.

My favorite moment to date as a StFX student-athlete is…?
I have two. The first would be winning the 1500m race and the Athlete of the Week in my first race back after an injury-plagued first year and a half. The second would be winning a bronze medal in the AUS 1500m race later in the track season.

If I could be Prime Minister for one day I would..?
Quickly realize that I don't understand politics, and quickly shift the power over to my buddy Nick Favero so he can save the polar bears.

My favorite Disney movie or character is…?
The Lion King because of the storyline and because most people say I am a lot like Rafiki.

My biggest pet peeve is...?
When you go to the Superstore and you buy a bag of BBQ Thinsations because there are no Crispers left and then you quickly realize that the size of the bags are very deceiving because they mostly just contain air but then you really enjoy the Thinsations and get hooked on them so you keep buying them and you keep lying to yourself about the contents of the bag because you wish the bag was full but it never is. That and slow walkers.

My dream job is...?
To be the guy who writes lyrics for Lil Wayne. I mean the guy needs a bit of help. He shouldn't be writing his own songs anymore. You can only hide behind those grills for so long until people realize your lyrics don't make any sense. If that doesn't work out, being a professional athlete would be pretty sweet.

One thing I love about StFX is...?
The feeling of being unconditionally supported not only by a great community, but also by an entire body of fellow student-athletes every time I step on the course. That and the meatballs from meal hall.

Tell us something interesting about your hometown?
Abram-Village, PEI is rich in love but poor in cell phone reception.

FAVORITES:

1. Color:  White and Blue baby

2. School subject:  Anything that is not, or not similar to, organic chemistry

3. Food:  BBQ Thinsations

4. Summer activity:  Running in my short shorts and collecting phone numbers.

5. Social Media:  Pretty much everything from Twitter (follow @cyresy_10) to that Kik messenger app thing that I downloaded when I had no cell phone reception (see above).

6. TV show:  Pokemon. But only with the original 150. It got weird when Misty left.

7. Vacation spot:  Flagstaff, AZ or Iten, Kenya

8. Singer/Band:  Alex Cyr in the shower

9. Item of clothing:  Track suits. If I'm trying to impress someone I only wear the track suit jacket with khakis (girls take note)
