CIS TOP TEN TUESDAY (#9)
Reigning champs Lancers, Ravens open at No. 1 in basketball

The Windsor women, winners of the last four Bronze Baby Trophies, open at No. 1 for the third straight year and for the fourth time in five campaigns.

The Carleton men, who are also four-time defending champs, debut at No. 1 for the ninth year in a row and for the 12^th time in 13 seasons.

In other CIS rankings this week, there are no changes at the top as Guelph (women's & men's cross country), McGill (women's hockey), Alberta (men's hockey, women's volleyball & men's volleyball), Ottawa (women's soccer), York (men's soccer), Montreal (women's swimming) and Toronto (men's swimming) all hang on to the pole position.

In women's hoops, Windsor is 4-0 against university teams in pre-season action thanks to a 37-point win over Saginaw Valley State of the NCAA's second division and a three-game sweep of Laval, Alberta and Western at Laval's tournament in Quebec City.

The Lancers, who received 36 of 45 first-place votes in the first coaches' poll, are set to visit Wayne State (NCAA II) on Wednesday and scrimmage against Oakland (NCAA II) on Friday before they kick off their OUA schedule at Western on Nov. 5.

Rounding out the initial women's Top 10 are the second-ranked UBC Thunderbirds, who earned the remaining nine first-place nods, as well as Alberta, McGill, Saint Mary's, Saskatchewan, McMaster, Regina, Queen's and Concordia.

On the men's side, the Ravens are 4-1 versus NCAA competition and 6-0 against CIS opponents in exhibition play, including wins over Bishop's, Victoria and Alberta at UVic's Guy Vetrie Memorial tournament and victories against Acadia, Waterloo and Laval at their own House-Laughton tourney.  

Carleton, which picked up 43 of 45 first-place votes in the national poll, visits Syracuse (NCAA 1) on Sunday before opening league play at home on Nov. 7-8 against Brock and McMaster. 

Opening at No. 2 behind the champs are the reigning CIS silver medallists Ottawa Gee-Gees, who received the other two first-place nods. Ryerson, McMaster, Windsor, Cape Breton, UBC, Saskatchewan, UNB and Victoria follow in order.
