Tate races to second place result at Moncton Invitational

Moncton, NB – The StFX X-Men claimed their third consecutive team in AUS competition this season with a first place finish at the Moncton Invitational on Saturday.

Led by second place finisher Bryden Tate, the X-Men scored 32 points, bettering second place Dalhousie (35) and third place UNB (75). Saint Mary's tallied 82 points and Moncton 133 to round out the team scoring.

Tate finished the 10k race in a time of 26:29.00, just ten seconds of the first place pace set by Saint Mary's John Kuto at 26:19.10. Matt MacNeil of Dalhousie was third at 26:356.10.

StFX placed five runners in the top ten amongst the 34 AUS runners.

Cal DeWolfe came in fourth place at 26:37.80 and Stu MacPherson was seventh with a clocking of 27:17.00. Nick Favero (27:33.00) and Ryan Hatchard (27:38.10) rounded out the top ten in ninth and tenth spots, respectively.

Ed MacDonald placed 12th overall (28:19.20) and Ryan Fuller was 20th (29:37.30) for the X-Men.

The women's race featured 50 AUS runners with the Dalhouise Tigers claiming top spot with 22 points. UNB was second with 34, followed by the X-Women with 89 points in third. Acadia (120), Moncton (138) and Saint Mary's (148) rounded out the team standings.

Alyson Woods was the top StFX finisher in 12th position with a time of 24:54.80 in the 6k race. Ginny Anderson placed 17th (25:50.30), while Kendra MacNeil (26:02.10) and Maura Gillis (26:02.40) were 18th and 19th.

Heidi MacDonald (26:30.90, 25th) and Tegan Moxam (27:16.10, 32nd) also raced for the blue and white.

Next up on the schedule is the AUS-RSEQ interlock meet on Saturday, Oct. 11th which will be hosted by StFX University.

Race times are 11:00 and 11:45 am with the start and finish line on the StFX soccer pitch and the meet taking place on the running trail located on the StFX campus. Each race is expected upwards of 150 competitors from a variety of AUS and RSEQ schools.
