Hardy & Kannenberg lead X-Women to victory on home course

Led by Melissa Hardy and Natalie Kannenberg who finished first and second, the X-Women cross country team ran to a first place finish in their own StFX Invitational meet held Saturday afternoon on the campus of StFX University. The runners battled rain and slick conditions on the course.

Hardy led the pack from start to finish, completing the 5k race with a time of 18:32. Kannenberg was close behind in second place at 18:38. Memorial’s Caroline McIlroy took third spot at 18:46.

X-Women runner Natasha Herron (18:57) was fourth, and X teammates Lynette Manuel (19:41), Liz O’Connell (19:43) and Christina LeGay (19:47) also cracked the top ten, placing eighth, ninth, and tenth, respectively. Alexa Zarins was 11th overall at 19:51.

Also competing for the X-Women were Sarah Deveau (20:27) and Kathryn Tuck (20:28) in 17th and 18th, Alyson Woods (20:47) in 21st, Kendra MacNeil (21:00) in 23rd and Ginny Anderson (21:03) in 24th. Rounding out the X runners were Jessica White (26th, 21:04), Sadie Petrie (34th, 21:32) and Emily Taylor (46th, 22:40) amidst the field of 62 AUS runners.

The X-Women took home the top showing with 24 points. Dalhousie was second with 52, followed by Memorial at 99. Other teams competing included UNB (114), Acadia (123), Moncton (159) and St. Thomas (171).

Next on the AUS circuit is a meet at Acadia on Saturday, October 6th.
