X-Men compete in interlock meet

The CIS ranked No. 8 X-Men cross country team competed in the UNB-St. Thomas Invitational interlock meet on Saturday and ran to a second place team showing amidst 12 participating schools.

Laval took home top honors with 31 points, followed by the X-Men with 42. Dalhousie was third with 92 points and Sherbrooke fourth at 112. The remaining team results were: McGill (139), UQAM (214), UNB (218), Memorial (222), UQTR (240), Saint Mary’s (245), Moncton (246) and St. Thomas (330).

Two Laval runners placed first and second in the individual 8k race, followed by AUS defending champion Connor McGuire from StFX in third. McGuire finished the race in a time of 24:55, nine seconds off the first place pace.

Lee Wesselius was the next X-Man to cross the finish line and was the top rookie finisher in the race, placing sixth at 25:26.

Scott Donald (25:47), Stephen Deering (25:49) and Bryden Tate (25:51) placed 10th, 11th and 12th for the X-Men.  Dennis Kayumba was 15th overall at 26:00 and Riley Johnston (26:07) was 16th to round out the X-Men top seven.

Also competing for StFX were Aaron Doucette (26:10), Zach MacDonald (26:14), Ryan Hatchard (27:10), Stuart MacPherson (27:34) and Brandon MacDonald (27:44). A total of 112 runners ran the course.

The meet marks the final one on the AUS regular season schedule for the X-Men, as they now shift their focus to the AUS championship race being held Saturday, October 27th in Halifax as the Dalhousie Tigers host.
