Connor McGuire of the StFX X-Men cross country team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 16, 2012.

Connor, a fourth-year Science student from Summerside, P.E.I., finished first in the individual 10km event and led the X-Men to a victory in the team competition at the season-opening Moncton Invitational meet this past Saturday.

McGuire crossed the line in a time of 24:50, six seconds ahead of teammate Lee Wesselius. The StFX squad finished with 20 points to take first place in the team standings.

Connor is the defending AUS individual champion and is a two-time AUS all-star.

Chanelle Roy of the CIS No. 10-ranked UPEI Panthers women’s soccer team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 16, 2012.

Roy, a fifth-year keeper from Bathurst, N.B., registered two more wins this past weekend as the Panthers improved to 3-0-1 to sit in first place after two weeks of play.

In Friday’s 1-0 road victory over the Saint Mary’s Huskies in Halifax, Chanelle registered her third shutout in as many outings this season and in Sunday’s 2-1 home victory over the UNB Varsity Reds, she did not allow a goal until the 85th minute, ending a streak of over 355 minutes played without allowing a goal this season.

Roy, a first-team AUS all-star in each of the past three seasons and a CIS all-Canadian keeper in 2010 has allowed just 7 goals and has posted 25 shutouts in her last 30 regular season starts.
