X-Women place 2nd overall in Subway AUS Cross Country Championship

StFX women’s cross country team ran to an impressive second place finish in the Subway AUS Cross Country Championships held this past weekend at StFX. The X-Women were cheered on by many local fans that came out to support there team as they challenged other university’s for the AUS banner. StFX has won the last five AUS Championships.

Top finisher for the X-Women was Natalie Kannenberg who placed second between two Dalhousie teammates with a time of 18:09. Kannenberg has been the top finisher for StFX this season. Dalhousie’s Caroline Schlosser won the race at 18:03 while Jessica Belliveau of Dalhousie placed third at 18:17.

StFX’s Erin MacNeil ran in fifth place at 18:37 and Bree Bates placed seventh overall at 18:46. Helena Fiore (19:37), Tathnee O’Meara (19:40), Elizabeth O’Connell (19:50) and Meggie Soehl (19:59) were #9, #10, #12 & #13, respectively for StFX. The field consisted of 49 runners.

Bronze medals were awarded to Memorial University who placed 3rd in team results with 79 points, StFX was awarded silver with 33 points and Dalhousie awarded gold with 25 points.

Female MVP of the Subway AUS Championship was Dalhousie’s Caroline Schlosser. Rookie of the year was awarded to StFX’s Elizabeth O’Connell. Erin MacNeil from StFX took home the student-athlete & community service award. Dalhousie’s Heather Hennigar was named AUS coach of the year for women’s cross country.

AUS Female all stars were Caroline Schlosser (DAL), Natalie Kannenberg (StFX), Jessica Belliveau (DAL), Cara Groves (DAL), Erin MacNeil (StFX), Gina Stewart (DAL)and Bree Bates (StFX).

CIS Cross Country Championships take place Saturday November 13th at Sherbrooke.
