Kannenberg races to 1st place in interlock meet

X-Women cross country runner Natalie Kannenberg ran her way to a first place finish at the Sherbrooke Invitational meet this past Saturday, in an interlock meet that featured 89 racers from eight different QSSF and AUS schools.

Kannenberg finished the 5k race in a time of 20:00 minutes flat, three seconds ahead of AUS rival Caroline Schlosser (20:03) from Dalhousie. Sarah McCuaig (20:08) from McGill placed third.

The X-Women placed second overall in the team standings with 49 points. Dalhousie claimed meet honors with 40 points while Universite de Laval was third with 90 points. Rounding out the team standings were McGill (93), Sherbrooke (108), Concordia (157), UNB (201) and Moncton (254).

Erin MacNeil was the second X-Women runner to cross the finish line as she placed 7th overall with a time of 40:46. Bree Bates was 12th at 21:28, while teammates Meggie Soehl (21:42) and Tathnee O’Meara (21:43) were 14th and 15th, respectively.

Helena Fiore placed 20th overall for StFX with a time of 22:00, and freshman Liz O’Connell (22:05) was 23rd. Also competing in Sherbrooke for the X-Women were Brittany Morris (22:10), Sarah Deveau (22:40), Bre Langley (22:44) and Louise Chaisson (22:50).

The event was a dry-run for the X-Women as the same course will be used for the CIS national championship taking place in November. The Sherbrooke meet marked the last one on the X-Women’s schedule as they have a weekend off before hosting the AUS championship on their home course at StFX. The 5k AUS championship race begins at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 30th on the campus of StFX. The men's race follows at 11:45 am.
