X-Women runners 2nd at UNB meet

The X-Women cross country team ran to a second place showing at the UNB Invitational meet in Fredericton this past Saturday, their third consecutive runner-up placement in as many meets this fall.

Natalie Kannenberg continued her streak as the top StFX competitor to date, this time running to a second place finish overall with a time of 18:06. Caroline Schlosser of Dalhousie won the race at 18:01 and Jessica Belliveau of Dalhousie was third at 18:09.

Erin MacNeil ran a strong race for the X-Women, coming in fifth position with a time of 18:44, while Bree Bates (18:53), Liz O’Connell (19:33) and Helena Fiore (19:34) placed seventh through ninth, respectively. Tathnee O’Meara was 13th at 19:42.

Also competing for the X-Women were Louise Chaisson (19:54) in 16th spot, followed closely by blue and white teammates Bre Langley (19:58), Brittany Morris (20:00) and Meggie Soehl (20:02) in 17th through 20th positions. Natasha Herron of X finished with a time of 21:22 in 31st spot.

There were 62 AUS competitors and 72 runners overall in the 5k event. The X-Women picked up 31 points in their second place showing, just two off of first place Dalhousie (29). Memorial was third with 77 points, followed by Acadia (172), Moncton (181), UNB (185), Saint Mary’s (224) and St. Thomas (242).

Next on the schedule for the X-Women is an interlock meet in Sherbrooke, QC on Saturday, Oct. 16th where several AUS, QSSF and OUA opponents will meet. The same course will be the site of this year’s CIS national championship in November.
