X-Women 2nd at opening meet

The X-Women cross country team opened up AUS competition on the road this past Saturday in Moncton and ran to a second place finish.

The X-Women earned 33 points, two back of first place Dalhousie who had 31. UNB was third with 95 points, followed by Acadia (101), Moncton (134) and Saint Mary’s (156).

Natalie Kannenberg was the top finisher for the X-Women, placing third overall in the 5k race with a time of 19:30.50. Former X-Women runner and current Dalhousie graduate student Gina Stewart won the race in a time of 19:18.00, while Cara Groves (19:21.50) of Dalhousie was second.

Bree Bates and Erin MacNeil placed fourth and fifth for StFX, finishing with times of 19:51.30 and 19:57.80, respectively. X-Women runners also placed in spots 10 through 15 as Liz O’Connel (20:43.10) was 10th, Louise Chaisson (20:49.20) was 11th, Meggie Soehl (20:51.10) was 12th, Tathnee O’Meara (20:56.00) placed 13th, Helena Fiore (20:59.00) was 14th and Brittany Morris (20:00.80) was 15th.

Rounding out the X-Women finished were Bre Langley (21:36.40) in 21st, Sarah Deveau (21:51.70) in 23rd and Melisa Hardy (21:55.70) in 24th in the race that featured 57 total runners.

Next on the schedule for the X-Women is a meet at Point Pleasant Park in Halifax, NS, hosted by the Dalhousie Tigers this Saturday, Sept. 25th.
