McGuire earns AUS Athlete of the Week honors

Connor McGuire of the StFX X-Men cross country team is the Atlantic University Sport Subway Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 10th, 2010. Connor, a second year Science student from Charlottetown, PE, finished first at the UNB Invitational cross country meet this past weekend in Fredericton, NB. His time of 25:59 to cover the 8km course was one second faster than the second place finisher, Dan Gorman of Dalhousie. The X-Men also finished second in the team competition at the event with 41 points. The next event on the calendar is the 2010 Subway AUS Cross Country Championship, which will be hosted by StFX University Saturday, October 30th in Antigonish, NS.

Allison Jordan of the Acadia Axewomen rugby team is the Atlantic University Sport Subway Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 10th, 2010. Allison, a second year lock from Fall River, NS, was named the Subway Player of the Game this past weekend in Acadia’s 26-3 road win over the UPEI Panthers in Charlottetown. Jordan, who was an AUS all-star last season, scored one of the four Axewomen tries in the victory, which secured a home playoff game for Acadia. The Axewomen (4-1), can finish no worse than second place and will host the first place StFX X-Women (5-0) this Friday night at Raymond Field in the regular season finale for both teams, with first place and a bye to the championship game at stake.

Throughout the 2010-11 season, each Subway Atlantic University Sport Athlete of the Week will receive a $50.00 Subway Card and a framed certificate courtesy of Subway Restaurants and Atlantic University Sport.
