McGuire 1st as X-Men place 2nd overall in UNB meet

Connor McGuire was the first AUS competitor across the finish line at the UNB Invitational meet this past Saturday in Fredericton. After a second and third place showing in the past two AUS meets, this time McGuire took home top honors, finishing the 8k race in a time of 25:59.

His teammates helped him post 41 points for a second place showing, StFX’s third consecutive runner-up placement in as many races. Dalhousie took home top spot with 30 points, while Memorial was third with 103. Saint Mary’s was fourth (112) followed by Moncton in fifth (130).

Julian MacLean of the X-Men was seventh across the finish line with a time of 27:17, followed closely by teammate Dennis Myumba in eighth at 27:18. Zach MacDonald (27:33) was the next best X finisher in 12th spot, while Gabe Quennville (27:43) was 13th.

Donald Rasmussen (28:02) and Stephen Deering (28:05) ran in 16th and 17th positions, respectively and Allan MacKenzie (29:14) was 23rd. Ryan Hawkrigg did not finish the race for the X-Men.

In total 36 AUS competitors and 56 racers overall took part in the 8k trek.

Next on the schedule for the X-Men is an interlock meet in Sherbrooke, QC on Saturday, Oct. 16th where several AUS, QSSF and OUA opponents will meet. The same course will be the site of this year’s CIS national championship in November.
