X-Women runners 8th at CIS championship

The X-Women cross country team participated in the CIS national championship this past weekend in Kingston, ON and came away with an eighth place team finish out of a field of 19 teams, bettering their 2008 ninth place standing by one spot.

The 5k race on Fort Henry Hill featured 131 runners and the X-Women ran strong after several team members had been battling with the flu for the past two weeks.

The top finisher for the X-Women was Monika Preibischova who came in 20th place in a time of 17:59, in what was a fast ran course.

Fourth year veteran runner Kelly MacDonald ran well for X at 18:21, finishing in 30th position overall. Bree Bates was the next X-Woman across the line in 46th spot at 18:43, while Erin MacNeil (18:58) was 60th.

\r\n

Petra Fouskova (19:10) placed 71st in the race, followed by teammates Bre Langley (19:23) in 83rd and AUS Rookie of the Year Natalie Kannenberg (19:29) in 87th.

\r\n

The top AUS runners in the race were AUS champion Ashley Ryer (17:34) from Saint Mary’s who was 10th overall and Dalhousie’s Caroline Schlosser (17:37) in 12th.

\r\n

The race was won by the University of Toronto’s Megan Brown (16:55) who repeated as individual champion and earned her third individual title in four years. She was followed by Lindsay Carson (17:14) of Guelph in second place and Valerie Belanger (17:23) of Sherbrooke in third.

\r\n

The Guelph Gryphons claimed their CIS record breaking fifth straight team title, earning 57 points, while Toronto (147) was second and McMaster (147) third. The University of Victoria (178) and Alberta (210) rounded out the top five. The X-Women earned 227 points in their eight place finish.
