Preibischova leads X runners to victory

The X-Women cross country team earned top spot at the UNB Invitational meet held this past weekend in Fredericton, NB.  Led by second place individual finisher Monika Preibischova, the X-Women earned 34 points to capture the first place team finish.

The win marked the second meet title out of four that they have captured this season. The X-Women bettered second place Dalhousie who finished with 60 points. Sherbrooke was third with 62 points, followed by McGill (74) and Memorial (163).

\r\n

Monika Preibischova led the X-Women contingent with a second place showing of 17:54 in the 5k race, just two seconds of the first place pace of Valerie Belanger (17:52) from Sherbrooke. Caroline Schlosser of Dalhousie was third at 18:00.

The next X-Women to cross the finish line was the trio of Petra Fouskova (18:42), Kelly MacDonald (18:48) and Bree Bates (18:51) in 6th, 7th and 8th spots. Erin MacNeil (19:04) and Heather Mosher (19:07) finished just outside the top 10 in 11th and 12th places, respectively.

Also racing in Fredericton for StFX were Bre Langley (16th, 19:15), Natalie Kannenberg (22nd, 19:18), Helena Fiore (28th, 19:37), Meggie Soehl (44th, 20:21), Paula MacDonald (50th, 20:46) and Flynn Regan (51st, 20:48).

The win gives the X-Women momentum heading into the AUS championship which is lasted for Saturday, Oct. 31st in Halifax, hosted by Saint Mary’s University at Point Pleasant Park. The X-Women are the four-time defending AUS champions and have a total of 6 AUS titles to their credit over the past 9 years.
