X-Men runners continue winning streak

The X-Men cross country team continue their dominance on the cross country trails as they took home UNB Invitational meet honors this past weekend.

In an interlock meet featuring 10 different AUS and QSSF schools, the X-Men garnered 34 points and won their fourth consecutive league meet of the season. Concordia placed second with 72 points, followed by McGill (99), Dalhousie (100) and Laval (103).

\r\n

David Gerych again led the X-Men to victory with a second place individual finish in the race. Gerych ran the 8k course in a time of 25:14, ten seconds off the first place pace of Russell Christie from Dalhousie (25:04). Stephane Colle from Concordia rounded out the top three, crossing the line at 25:16.

Lee McCarron and Brent Addison were in the top 10 for StFX. McCarron placed 4th overall with a time of 25:17, very close to the third place finisher, while Addison was 5th at 25:33. Petr Doubravsky crossed the line in 11th spot (26:12) and teammate John Corbit was 12th (26:22).

With victories in all four races they entered this season, and an AUS title in 2008, the X-Men will be looking to defend that title on Saturday, Oct. 31 as they travel to Halifax for the AUS championship.

Saint Mary’s will host this year’s AUS final at Point Pleasant Park and with the exception of the CIS silver medal won last year, the X-Men are riding on a nine-meet unbeaten streak dating back to the 2007 AUS championship.
