Running to 1st place on home turf
Monika Preibischova led the X-Women to a first place finish on home turf at the StFX Invitational cross country meet held in Antigonish on Saturday afternoon. Preibischova, the 2007 AUS champion, won the women’s 5k race in a time of 18:30 in cold, wet conditions on the StFX cross country trail.
\r\nDalhousie runners Caroline Schlosser (18:36) and Cara Groves (19:08) placed second and third, respectively. StFX runners then took up fourth through eighth spots as Kelly MacDonald (19:13) notched fourth place, followed by teammates Natalie Kannenberg (19:15), Heather Mosher (19:17), Bree Bates (19:31) and Bre Langley (19:35).
\r\nTwelve more StFX runners completed the 5km course amidst the 66 total AUS competitors and 87 overall runners. Erin MacNeil placed 13th overall (19:44), Petra Fouskava was 14th (19:47) and Helena Fiore was 18th (20:05).
\r\nRounding out the X-Women finishes were Paula MacDonald (20:15), Flynn Regan (20:17) and Meggie Soehl (20:20) in 22nd, 23rd and 24th, respectively. Brittany Morris (20:51) was 31st, followed by Tathnee O’Meara (20:51) in 32nd, Taylor Regan (21:57) in 41st, Kelsey Fletcher (22:22) in 47th, Aimee Jenkins (22:24) in 48th and Amy Hardwick (23:26) in 54th.
\r\nThe X-Women earned 24 points in their team win, followed by Dalhousie with 39 points and Memorial with 122. Acadia finished fourth with 199 and Moncton was fifth at 312 points.
\r\nThe X-Women have next weekend off and will resume competition on October 3rd as they travel to Maine for the Murray Keatinge Invitational exhibition meet.
